A design for life

I have thinking of a valid solution to my idea of how social network sites like facebook & 2nd life will evolve in the future. I envision a future in which everybody can literally connect themselves to the computer/internet and experience the world wide web in a kind of virtual reality situation, this idea has been shown before in the television show 'Futurama' which I will show a clip of in my documentary. This idea of virtual reality headsets/suits is an interesting concept which was one of the main focuses of the iraq war exhibition we visited today, in the display we were shown virtual footage of a typical battle/skirmish/patrol which played out very much like a video game but we were also shown that soldiers in the US army wear virtual reality helmets so they can really get involved in the process.

Back to my design future idea, i would like to be able to connect to the internet with the ability to actually see people online etc. i would show this on my documentary by including a short promo of two people talking to each other but because it is online in virtual reality these two people are actually in two seperate countries, when the conversation is finished the two people log out (shown on screen) and dissapear (via the use of a clever transistion).

So my presumption is that you are going to create a documentary as a means of delivering the results for this Brief. Good in fact. Can you make a playable DVD version of this too i.e. a self-executing DVD.

I recommend you do some searches in Leonardo magazine and refer to these in your research. Seeing as this is a new area journals are more likely to provide useful information than books which by their nature are more weighty but less up-to-date.

How do you suspect Social Networking will evolve? How can you be so sure? Are reactions against it possible. Why do people still meet in RL? Basic questions I assume you have considered.

Because of your interesrs I suggest you get to Cine-city events and probably try to even get involved. Also the One-Dot-Zero documentaries are worth looking at. If documentary making is your real interest then this year let's find ways of engaging very intensely with the phenomenon. I presume you've started at the beginning, seen the likes of Nanook of the North etc. in the past. Let's talk more and try to locate opportunities for you to push yourself out into the world outside education. There may be comissions, grants etc. you could apply for. talk more as the year progresses.
