Update

A big update of work i have completed and work i am about to embark upon...

first up is my professional practice video, i made a promo advert for the government road safety campaign 'Think'.

Floor It!

the second video is my entry for the D&AD competition, i chose the science museum brief and have created an animation that hopefully will encourage 8-14 year olds to learn about black holes.

Black Holes

Lastly i have begun to think of possible ideas for my final project, i have a big urge to pursue an idea i have developed with a friend for about two years, the following video is a big influence to this idea, enjoy.

My animation technique

the following video is a great example of the animation style i will utilize my work with, the clip is from 'James May's Sister's Top Toys' and it will be a big influence on my final piece enjoy...

This is also the same technique that the creators of south park used in creating the first two pilot episodes of said show
here is a short animation screen test to gauge my animation skills at present...

and here is my first animation effort i made a while back...

Work Update

its been quite a while since i have posted any relevant work material so here we are, I'll begin with the D+AD brief. I must admit to being rather unfamiliar with this educational competition scheme (if that's what it is?) and to be perfectly honest i feel slightly underwhelmed by the complete briefs on offer, there are only three ideas suited to video/film making skills so i don't have too much to debate about on selecting an idea.

the first brief was a music video for the Damon albarn/Jamie Hewlett music opera collaboration of Monkey. this is a pretty bad brief in my view because the creative duo behind the animated band Gorillaz have such a unique animation style that trying to replicate or better is a pretty grim task. (On an interesting side note Jamie Hewlett was a student at my previous college Northbrook)

this leaves either the eBay viral or the science museum black hole animation, the viral was the front runner in my idea selection but upon further scrutiny of the brief i have decided against it, what turned me off was the companies decision to move away from the fun aspect that is unique to eBay and focus on serious shopping opportunities which raises problems when creating a viral because from previous experience they are more suited to a fun and comedic tone.

i have been anxious to make an animation for a while so with the science museum brief i see a great opportunity to make a visually engaging and entertaining project that appeals to the key demographic.

I will update again this week detailing my idea plan for the brief

Interactivity Project End

I have finally completed my film about public playgrounds and the proposed 'interactive playground' of the future, which in my opinion takes away the heart and soul of a source of fun and entertainment that has stood the test of time for well over 100 years. In my film I show a clip of the proposed 'interactive playground' which is the computer generated promo from the company, the full video is here...

or visit the company website:

the company has actually made interactive playgrounds in its native Finland and they have even installed one in a U.K school.

Interactivity: 'Interactive Playground'

just a quick update on the progress of my project, unfortunately my initial idea of making a short movie in 3D via. red & blue glasses was not producing the results I wanted. This concept proved to be a lot more difficult than first realised and due to the distinct lack of help online or in books etc. was a contributing factor, lastly I could not utilize this theory with a decent idea of interactivity apart from the viewer wearing the glasses it comes up a little short in terms of interaction.

So now I have switched to a new idea that focuses on the actual meaning of 'Interactivity' and more importantly the terms that are associated with it in the digital age we live in. The main focus will be on the term 'interactive playground' which stretches through a large array of media and other aspects in life such as video gaming (GTA, The Sims, Wii), social interaction both online and reality and even children's toys and games. I am not planning a documentary on this per se seeing as it will likely turn out like a social commentary piece or even a public service video to an extent.

what intrigues me the most is that a lot of interactive medium today would not exist if not for its real-life counterparts, sticking with the 'interactive playground' term it is interesting to note that real-life playgrounds with swings, slides, roundabouts etc. are the very core element for interactivity. children always enjoy going to the playground and it is in my opinion that the process of interaction between the two is the basis for all interactivity in all its forms.

that may seem like a slightly complicated view of things and hopefully my project will get this idea across in an interesting and educational manner.
